Inauguration of the green wall in Lyon Perrache Archives parking lot
Q-Park France, 2nd parking operator, has inaugurated on 3 June 2010 the work of art of Perrache Archives car park:
Located under the Place des Archives (the first public space created within the framework of the Lyon Confluence project), next to Lyon Perrache railway station, Perrache car park has 649 places on 8 levels. The cost of the works for this parking facility, which opened its doors on 29 January 2010, amounts to €22,2 M, out of which €19,7 M at the expense of Q-Park. This parking lot is the subject of a public service delegation for 35 years signed with the Grand Lyon.
The green wall:
260m² of green walls decorate the underground parking facility. It is the first in France. The work has been performed by Atelier Arche, with the light designer Cobalt as consultant and the botanist Patrick Blanc for the artistic creations. Patrick Blanc is globally known for this project. He developed, patented and several times experimented with the plantation process partially without soil in order to dress the walls. These green walls are composed of various plants, some of them exotic, arranged according to their exposure to the light and to the differences of temperature. Every niche of the parking facility in the centre has a green wall of 22 metres high, ascending from the -1 level to the -8 level.
All plants have been carefully chosen depending on: the humidity rate, difficulties of intrinsic ventilation, illumination and humidity in the underground parking lots. Among the selected plants, some are known for their ability to absorb carbon dioxide and polluting gases. This wall demonstrates the desire of Q-Park and the Architect of the project to make parking more ecological.
